History/Overview
Not only is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 one of the brand’s most popular models, it’s also one of Canada’s strongest-selling vehicles overall thanks to the explosive growth of the pickup marketplace over the last couple of decades.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
The Silverado 1500’s only notable change for 2023 is a power bump for the optional 3.0L diesel six-cylinder, whose output rises by 28 hp and 35 lb-ft of torque to new totals of 305 hp and 495 lb-ft.
Available Trims
Chevrolet offers the Silverado in WT, Custom, LT, RST, Custom Trail Boss, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ, and High Country trim levels. Engine choices include a 5.3L V8, a 2.7L turbo four-cylinder, a 3.0L turbodiesel six-cylinder, and a 6.2L V8. Transmissions are 8- and 10-speed automatics, and in most trims you can choose two- or four-wheel drive.
Body configurations include a two-door regular cab, a double cab, and a four-door crew cab.
Standard Features
On the outside, the Silverado’s wheel sizes start with 17-inch steel wheels, and range up to 22-inches as an option on certain trims.
WT trim (which stands for Work Truck) is pretty basic, making do with manual, unheated seats and vinyl flooring, power windows, and manual A/C.
The Silverado’s standard safety kit comprises lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision mitigation, and automatic high beams.
Custom adds remote engine start, a rear window defroster, hitch guidance, LED cargo lighting, and an EZ-lift locking tailgate.
LT is where things get real, content-wise, with dual-zone A/C, heated front seats and steering wheel, a 13.4-inch touchscreen, and passive keyless entry.
RST gains LED fog lights and taillights.
The Trail Boss package looks the part of an off-roader, but the ZR2 brings the real goods with all-terrain tires and other bits that enhance the truck’s go-anywhere prowess.
LTZ and High Country are where to look for luxury kit like power-folding/auto-dimming side mirrors, Bose audio, wireless phone charging, surround-view cameras, trailer blind spot monitoring, rear pedestrian alert, and perimeter lighting. Here you’ll also find a power tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, power seats with lumbar, a bed-view camera, front and rear park assist, heated rear seats, and ventilated front seats. Finally, these trims also feature a power sliding rear window, electric steering wheel adjustments, rear cross-traffic braking, and ventilated front seats.
Key Options
Features available in the Silverado’s various option packages include a head-up display, bed-view camera, a sunroof, heated rear seats and ventilated fronts, and advanced driver assists like adaptive cruise.
Fuel Economy
The Silverado’s fuel consumption estimates start at 10.0/8.1 L/100 km (city/highway) for a 2WD model with the diesel engine; the ZR2 model is thirstiest at 16.7/14.0 L/100 km.
Competition
The Silverado does battle in the sales arena with the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra, and the very similar GMC Sierra.
